Morinville is modernizing its Land Use Bylaw (LUB) to better reflect current realities, address community needs and priorities, and make the development process easier to understand and use. Community priorities were identified in consultation with residents and other members of the community through the recently updated Municipal Development Plan (MDP). To learn more about these priorities, visit the MDP Project Resources page.

This project is being done in partnership with ISL Engineering and Land Services.

What is a Land Use Bylaw and why does it matter?

The LUB helps guide how land is used and developed in Morinville. It sets out what types of buildings and activities can happen in different areas, such as homes, businesses, industrial shops, storage sheds, and more.

The LUB also includes rules to help new development fit well within existing neighbourhoods and reduce impacts on nearby properties. For example, if you want to build something new, make changes to an existing building, or change how a property is used, you will need to reference the LUB to identify what permits may be needed and what steps to follow.

What will the updated Land Use Bylaw do?

The updated LUB will provide Morinville Council and Administration, landowners, developers, builders, and community with a modern regulatory development document that reflects the community's goals while being mindful of the needs of our growing community.

Engagement Opportunities

Where We are Now

We are in the Engagement Round #1, which started in Summer 2026. At this stage of the project, engagement is focused on Morinville Council and Administration, as well as developers and builders. Feedback from this phase will inform the development of a draft LUB, as will previous community priorities collected during previous Municipal Development Plan engagement

2027 Public Engagement

In early 2027, we’ll move to Engagement Round #2 where interested developers and builders will participate in a second workshop. Later that spring, the draft LUB will be shared with the public for feedback through an online survey and an open house. Feedback received will be considered in the finalization of the LUB.

Throughout engagement with the community, What We Heard Reports will be shared to this project page, summarizing input received.
