What is a Municipal Development Plan?
A Municipal Development Plan is like a roadmap for your community. It is a high-level statutory policy document that outlines how a community is expected to change over time, and what it wants to be in the future. A Municipal Development Plan is required by provincial legislation and helps ensure a community’s land assets are used appropriately and efficiently both today and years from now. It also shapes the economic, cultural, environmental and social aspects of a community.
Municipal Development Plan’s cover a lot and are an important backbone of a community. A successful MDP should be shaped by the community it is designed for.
MyMorinville
Before we put pen to paper, we want to hear from you about:
What are the main goals of the community and how can they be addressed through the MDP?
What goals should be prioritized?
What do you want Morinville to look like in the future?
Once complete, the MyMorinville MDP will focus on the following:
Quality architecture and design that recognizes Morinville’s heritage and character, and establishes a distinctive, and timeless sense of place.
Increasing the vitality and sustainability of the Coer de Morinville.
A range of housing types featuring quality design standards, connectivity and walkability.
Locating commercial uses appropriately.
Improving development readiness for suitable business/light industrial uses, build up the supply of industrial land, and encourage development.
Establishing and expanding suitable institutional uses.
Enhancing the quality of life and attractiveness of the community by expanding the trail system, quality open spaces, and accessible recreational facilities.
Integrating sustainability into all decision-making processes, including the planning of new communities and redevelopment projects.
A well-planned transportation network to provide safe, convenient and enjoyable connections and the notion of ‘complete streets’ is given priority.
Encouraging sustainability by maximizing the capacity of municipal infrastructure.
Ensuring land use planning and growth management decisions support long-term financial sustainability and encourage economic development.
Enabling Morinville to take advantage of opportunities benefiting all municipal neighbours to maximize efficient use of mutual infrastructure and interests.
